It’s no surprise that the Miami Dolphins released outlandish wide receiver Chad Johnson after his arrest for an alleged domestic abuse.  Now they need to find someone to replace him which could be a prime free agent such as Plaxico Burress.

The Dolphins are probably regretting not snagging wide receiver Braylon Edwards whose workout and visit was chronicled in the first episode of the HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series.  Dolphin’s general manager Jeff Ireland asked Edwards who would be someone to vouch for him.

Edwards said New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan.  Ireland scoffed at Edwards and sarcastically said  he wasn’t calling Ryan.  Maybe he should have swallowed his pride and picked up the phone.  Now I see why Dolphins fans are calling for his termination.

The joke is on the Dolphins because Edwards had a decent start for the Seattle Seahawks whom he signed with after the Dolphins visit.  He made a leaping touchdown grab in tight coverage that looked like it was going to be picked off in the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.

That was the idea with signing Johnson.  The Dolphins wanted to have several weapons that their quarterback could choose from.  Now the only targets that stick out are wide receivers Davone Bess and Legedu Naanee.

Burress is currently scheduled to workout with the New England Patriots which should tell you something right there.  The Patriots organization isn’t going to bring someone in that they feel won’t be able to contribute or control.
