The New Orleans Saints have always strived to be the best. Head coach Sean Payton demanded it and quarterback Drew Brees expects the same from his offense. In practicing against the New England Patriots the last few days, the team got much needed competition from the highest level.
While some may hold a sour disdain for the Patriots, it’s because mainly they are seen somewhat as the privileged children with numerous advantages and are always picked to be in the postseason regardless of what happens.
Even sometimes I find myself scratching my head to figure out how the heck the Patriots who always seem to finish in the playoffs end up with two FIRST ROUND draft picks every time and a team like the Saints are lucky to covet just one.
It’s simple, the Patriots run a top to bottom organization that many teams want to have and try to mirror as such. Even Brees said as much when they defeated the Patriots in 2009 during their run to the Super Bowl.
And not to be a killjoy on the whole “Do Your Job” motto this year that Saints fans will use as a rallying cry, but Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has been blasting that saying to his players for years(I’m already prepared for Who Dat’s to claim he stole it from Payton).
The Saints and Patriots though are not too far apart in reality. Both franchises have owners that fought to bring their teams to the current success that they have and rely on good quality players and coaching staff.
