Interim head coach Joe Vitt stood off to the side staring at the ground momentarily while Brees and Payton spoke.  Vitt appeared to be flush with emotion and shook Payton’s hand and then gave him a hug.

Brees has not seen his coach and mentor since the offseason began and Brees entered into contract negotiations.  Vitt last saw him in April when the suspension for the head coach started and Payton issued three words to Vitt that have now become the Saints motto, “Do Your Job”.

The Saints will try to do just that as they begin their first test tomorrow night against the Cardinals.  While Payton may not be at the game, his surprise visit hopefully left an impression that the team will carry into Sunday night and the rest of the season.
