New Orleans Saints Interim Coach Joe Vitt will not be revealing what order the quarterbacks will be playing in this Sunday’s Hall of Fame game. Coach Vitt also will not be revealing which brand of gum he will be chewing on the sideline.
While the announcement won’t really throw a wrench in the Arizona Cardinals defensive strategy, it probably has more to do with keeping the Saints quarterbacks on their toes.
Quarterback Drew Brees will be playing the first series. The rest of the game will be divided among Chase Daniel, Sean Canfield, and Luck McCown
Chase Daniel took many of the reps as the #1 quarterback during off-season workouts while Drew Brees contract was being negotiated. Daniel plans to compete for the starting quarterback spot.
The greatest competition may be for the third quarterback slot. Quarterback Luck McCown reportedly has not played well enough to challenge Daniel for the second string and will be competing with Sean Canfield.
While suspended Head Coach Sean Payton will not be allowed to attend the game, he will be allowed to go to the Hall of Fame Ceremony.
The most interesting party of the Hall of Fame game will be how the new referees perform during the game. The NFL has not reached a new collective bargaining agreement with the NFL Referees Union and has therefore moved forward with training replacement officials.
Among the replacement officials could be FCS Mid Eastern Athletic Conference official Shannon Eastin, which would make her the first woman to officiate an NFL football game. Eastin and the other referees have been training for at least two months and this Sunday we will see if that training has paid off.
