July 27, 2012; Metairie, LA, USA; New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Givens drops a pass during training camp at the team
Cornerback Cord Parks wasn’t even gone for a full day when the New Orleans Saints released him. His return to the roster comes at a needed time for the team.
Parks has been flying under the radar since the Saints started camp, which isn’t a good thing when you’re trying to make the roster. With the team a little light in the defensive lineman position, he was released to make room for journeyman defensive end Alex Daniels.
But a series of events have transpired in the last few days that made him a somewhat needed commodity. First being the shoulder injury on Sunday to cornerback Patrick Robinson and then the news today that cornerback Jabari Greer had surgery for a sports hernia.
When Robinson will return isn’t clear and Greer is said to be able to go by the season opener. That’s left young players like Johnny Patrick and Marquis Johnson to fill in as the starters for the cornerback positions.
Also in the mix is fifth round draft choice Corey White who has been getting multiple reps at the position. Now is the time for Parks to take hold of this second chance he has been given and make the most of it.
