New Orleans Saints defensive tackle Akiem Hicks cleared to practice

According to numerous reports, the New Orleans Saints 2012 third round draft pick Akiem Hicks has been removed from the active physically unable to perform(PUP) list.

Adam Caplan tweeted the announcement shortly after 8:00 a.m. with the Saints fixing to start practice at 8:50 a.m..  WWL’s Saints sideline reporter Kristian Garic also said that fans could actually see Hicks in action today.

Hicks suffered a fracture in his hand during the Saints organized team activities and interim head coach Joe Vitt expressed that Hicks may miss the opening of training camp but didn’t seem concerned.

The reason for the active/PUP list for Hicks was simply for precaution.  Vitt said that the “spacing” in the fracture still needed some time to heal.  Fans are expecting a lot of the “who is that again” draft pick, but expect Hicks to come along at a smooth pace.

So far there is no word on if cornerback Patrick Robinson will practice after suffering what Vitt described as a “tweaked” shoulder during Sunday’s hot, grueling practice.
