The Washington Redskins can now breathe a little easier as they roll towards camp now that they have what they hope is their franchise quarterback locked in.
Griffin and the Redskins reportedly agreed to a contract that is for four years and worth $21.11 million. The enire deal is also reported to be guaranteed.
Griffin was the second pick of the first round in this years draft with quarterback Andrew Luck going with the first pick to the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts were in need of a franchise quarterback after releasing Peyton Manning early in the offseason.
A debate ramped up prior to the draft on who was the best fit for which team with some analysts saying Griffin should be taken by the Colts. The Colts squashed that notion when they announced early on they were taking Luck.
Griffin will face his first real test as he and the Redskins will travel to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to face the New Orleans Saints on September 9 at 1:00 p.m. ET in the first game of the season for both teams.
