It’s no doubt that the thought of a new contract with the Saints has crossed the mind of Graham. But being who he is, it’s unlikely that he’ll go kick in the door of general manager Mickey Loomis and demand a new one.
He understands the situation at hand and has two more seasons to go before he is an unrestricted free agent. This scenario is unlikely to happen since he has become a more go-to target than wide receiver Marques Colston.
Graham also understands that things don’t happen overnight and has seen other contracts with marquee players take some time like with Brees, running back Pierre Thomas and wide receiver Lance Moore.
It’s very unlikely that an extension for Graham happens this season and maybe not even the next. The Saints have shown that they like to wait on giving out big contracts until they have too so the best bet would be the offseason in 2014.
While Gronkowski may be doing a “Stand Up and Get Gronk” now with his new contract, the Saints will have their own “Golden Graham” in time to come.
