Fans of the New Orleans Saints have been starting a viral chain letter the last few weeks on social media inquiring about the possibility of trading for disgruntled New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora.
Rumors swirled before the 2012 NFL Draft that the Giants might be interested in trading Umenyiora for the right price in regards to his salary and a draft pick or picks.
Umenyiora has been very vocal that he was unhappy with his current situation with the team, more specifically his contract. It’s something that he and the Giants went through last year.
Umenyiora felt like he deserved a new contract with the Giants and should be paid according to his level of play. In 2010 he had 48 tackles, 11.5 sacks, and 10 forced fumbles which is outstanding.
Yet the team kept Umenyiora at his current contract going into the 2011 season. He was set back by a few nagging injuries in 2011 during training camp but joined the team on another run to an NFL championship.
This past season, he was relegated to being a backup to second-year defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul. Even still Umenyiora had 25 tackles, 9 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles.
