There has been a guessing game going on in regards to the New Orleans Saints linebacker situation especially with the moves made in free agency and a possible long-term suspension for linebacker Jonathan Vilma.
The guessing can come to an end since assistant head coach Joe Vitt gave an afternoon press conference yesterday. The Saints have made significant upgrades to the position in free agency.
The team signed Curtis Lofton, David Hawthorne, and Chris Chamberlain during the free agency period. Vitt stated today that linebacker Jonathan Casillas signed his restricted free agent tender after visiting the Tennessee Titans last week.
The only significant loss the Saints had was linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar who signed with the St. Louis Rams. Even with that, the team is still stacked at the position.
The only real question was what linebacker would be playing where. Vilma has been the middle linebacker since his arrival with the Saints. But with a possible suspension forthcoming and his injuries, that looked to change.
Vitt addressed all three linebacker positions which are middle(Mike), strongside(Sam), weakside(Will) and also which players would be where.
