While the New Orleans Saints have had several free agent cornerbacks in lately for workouts, about an hour ago they took care of Jabari Greer before he became one.

Eric Edholm of reported that the Saints and Greer agreed on a three year contract extension this afternoon.  Greer had one year left on his contract and would have become a free agent next season.

This keeps Greer with the team until 2015.  Although exact details are not known at this time, the amount of the contract is said to be worth around $23 million dollars.

This was a very good move by the Saints to go ahead and do some preventive maintenance with Greer so they wouldn’t have to lose him next year like they did with departed cornerback Tracy Porter.

It’s also a good move by the Saints because Greer has got to be one of the most underrated cornerbacks in the NFL right now.  Greer did have an off season in 2010 due to what was later found out to be a serious shoulder injury that he played with.

Greer has been in the NFL for eight years where he has a total of 332 tackles, two sacks, two forced fumbles, and nine interceptions. Since being with the Saints he has 155 tackles and 5 interceptions.
