The New Orleans Saints retained one of their veterans, kick returner Courtney Roby, on Monday and saw the release of one of their linebackers.
Roby, who was captain of special teams last season, made the announcement on his Twitter account today. Roby has been a staple on special teams since his arrival with the Saints in 2008.
He was best remembered for a 97 yard touchdown kick return that he had during the 2009 season en-route to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, he’s also remembered for a lost fumble on a kick return during the 2012 NFC Divisional Game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Yet overall, Roby has proven to be a solid player on the special teams unit, especially as a gunner. He’s known for making sure tackles on returns and able to get down field quickly.
The Saints also released a linebacker on Monday along with the signing of Roby. Rookie Jeremiah Hunter was released after being on injured reserve for the entire preseason and regular season.
Hunter was signed last year by the Saints as an undrafted free agent. He played his college career at Iowa.
