New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma has been quiet lately on Twitter. But a recent tweet by Sports Illustrated writer Peter King brought Vilma back onto the scene.
Late this afternoon, the Saints announced that they had signed former Seattle Seahawks linebacker David Hawthorne. A solid but very surprising pickup for the team and their linebacking corps.
It’s surprising because Hawthorne became the third free agent linebacker in the past several weeks that the Saints have signed with Curtis Lofton and Chris Chamberlain being the other two.
Rumors swirled about Vilma’s status with the team since both Lofton and Hawthorne have played at the middle linebacker position which every Saints fans knows is also Vilma’s position.
Vilma has long been named as one player we know for sure will be facing some form of discipline from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in the so-called “Bounty Scandal”.
A suspension is going to be a given but it’s unclear for how long. Speculation has been Vilma may be lost for the season or released outright. Vilma has jokingly played off all the rumors until today.
