Defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley signs with New Orleans Saints

In a bright spot amongst the dark clouds of the punishment from the “Bounty Gate” investigation for the New Orleans Saints, Denver Broncos free agent defensive tackle Brodrick Bunkley has signed a deal with the team.

Bunkley is reported as signing a 5-year, $25 million contract with $9 million guaranteed this afternoon.  Bunkley was also trying to be retained by the Broncos because of the great season he had last year.

Known as more of a force against the run than a pass rusher, Bunkley will provide some much needed presence on the defensive line.  It’s likely that defensive lineman Aubrayo Franklin and Shaun Rogers, one or both, may not return with this signing.

Bunkley was a first round pick for the Philadelphia Eagles before being traded to the Broncos last season.  The main reason was because the Eagles had signed defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins which made Bunkley obsolete.

In his six year career, Bunkley has totaled 187 tackles and six sacks
