Free agent cornerback Tracy Porter has been silent on Twitter ever since the start of free agency much like the market for him. That could and should change in an upcoming visit to the Tennessee Titans.
Porter has got to be frustrated up to this point after almost a week in free agency and still no takers. The New Orleans Saints reportedly haven’t even reached out to to him and even offered a contract to the player that helped win a championship for them.
A visit to the Oakland Raiders is scheduled for this week, which made sense because of the connection between Porter and head coach Dennis Allen. Allen was formerly the secondary coach for the Saints and tutored Porter while he was there.
However, it was announced yesterday that the Raiders had signed former San Francisco 49ers cornerback Shawnte Spencer. What role Spencer will play in Oakland is a question mark since he wasn’t really a starter and the Raiders also signed Ronald Bartell at cornerback.
Still, the signing of Spencer and Bartell kind of diminishes the luster of a contract that Porter is seeking. Adding to that insult was that is was reported last night that the Jacksonville Jaguars had signed former New York Giants cornerback Aaron Ross.
Although Ross is a former first round pick, it’s surprising that the Jaguars didn’t reach out to Porter and at least look at him. He would have enjoyed the the contract Ross signed which was for 3 years, $15.3 million.
