Once the Miami Dolphins saw they weren’t going to be a landing spot for Peyton Manning, they became aggressive in their search for a new quarterback by visiting with Matt Flynn yesterday and now Alex Smith today.

Flynn who has shown a spark when given the chance to start in several games for the Green Bay Packers, has visited with the Seattle Seahawks as well as with the Dolphins.

He hasn’t given an indication as to who he prefers but you can bet that the Seahawks are making an aggressive push to sign Flynn and finally have a consistent offense to match their opportunistic defense.

ESPN has revealed that Alex Smith is making a visit with the Dolphins as well today, not long after Flynn has left.  Smith was trying to negotiate a contract with the San Francisco 49ers but it stalled in free agency and they have begun to pursue Manning in earnest.

The 49ers signed former New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham in an attempt no doubt to get Mannings attention that they are serious about surrounding him with offensive weapons.  Even if Manning doesn’t sign with the 49ers, Smith is done on the West Coast.

You can’t blame Smith for looking at other teams because it’s apparent that the supposed close relationship that he and 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh had was merely an “in the moment” thing.
