In an article written for Who Dat Dish this morning (click here) reports were New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson and head coach Sean Payton were in New York City to meet with NFL officials to find out the discipline that will be administered to the team. NFL Network’s Jason LaCanfora has now updated the situation.
Benson and Payton were both confirmed as being in New York City over the weekend to discuss what measures will be weighed on the franchise.
LaCanfora is reporting that NFL officials will meet tomorrow and Wednesday to go over the matter once more with a decision likely by the end of this week with “hard penalties expected.”
As stated in the first article, Benson and Payton could also be asking for the penalties to be staggered since they could involve not only fines and loss of draft picks, but suspensions of coaches and players.
Payton could be one of those facing a suspension as well as linebacker Jonathan Vilma and players that might still be on the roster from the start of the investigation.
Losing that much personnel at one time would surely cause the Saints to stumble out of the gates at the beginning of the season.
