While this isn’t going to happen, punishment is on it’s way. Pro Football Talk cited a source saying that it’s confirmed that the Saints will face fines, suspensions for those involved, and loss of draft picks.
When this punishment will be handed down or how severe the penalties will be is still not known. Fans are bracing for the worst along with worrying about a key member of the team, quarterback Drew Brees.
Brees and the Saints have been locked in a dispute over his contract for the upcoming season. Reports are that he was offered $18.5 million per year with a $30 million signing bonus. Brees reportedly turned it down wanting $23 million per year and the franchise tag was placed on him.
Larry Holder of CBSSports.com reported that a source said that Brees was “livid” at having the tag placed on him and will not sign the franchise tag tender. However NFL Network’s Heath Evans stated that is not the way Brees feels and this is being blown out of proportion.
Despite all of it, Saints fans have remained calm as best they can and promise to remain faithful. Players named in the scandel like linebacker Jonathan Vilma have received nothing but support from his followers on social media.
