While the Saints have been doing some minor signings, the latest being center Brian de la Puenta, the fans are waiting on the news that a contract has been worked out for Brees and if it’s possible to bring back Nicks and/or Colston.

The Saints are in a tight spot with what they can dish out.  The Times-Picayune Mike Tripplet reported that the Saints are currently $7 million under the $120 million salary cap.

Brees’ franchise tag is costing the club a reported $16 million to be exclusive and several sources have said that Brees will not sign the tender for the tag.

If the NFL and union are working to possibly increase the number, that would help the Saints some.  Keep in mind I said some.  Hey, $7 million is a lot to us, but doesn’t seem to go far in the NFL.

Brees and the Saints are still working towards a long-term contract which will be a hefty one.  He was actually offered a contract last year to be the highest paid player in the NFL and turned it down.  It leaves some asking what’s he looking for and here’s the answer.
