Depending on how the Saints want to go, they could actually snag some good prospects out of this linebacker-heavy draft class. Alabama’s Courtney Upshaw and Dont’a Hightower are two the Saints could use.
Only problem is they will both be chosen in the first round. If the Saints want to stock the position, they could land some value even with them gone.
Nebraska linebacker Lavonte David had two great seasons the last two years. In 2011 he had 122 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
David has made clutch plays in at least four games in 2011 and is very quick. The only thing that would be a downside for him is his weight which hovers around 225-230 lbs.
Miami University linebacker Sean Spence is a player that has the phrase “always around the football” attached to him. Like David, Spence is quick and has good instincts when breaking a play down.
