Payton, 34, of Jackson, Mich., is charged with one count of sending threatening communications through interstate commerce, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired former Giants quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan as their offensive coordinator Friday. Sullivan joins the staff of new coach Greg Schiano, who was hired in late January from Rutgers, replacing the fired Raheem Morris.

Clements is making the transition from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator, while McAdoo is progressing from tight ends coach to quarterbacks coach.
