New Orleans Saints: Top News and Video Clips

Obviously the Saints will either franchise tag or re-sign quarterback Drew Brees, so he is automatically off the list, but there are names after Brees that could be availible. They are offensive linemane Carl Nicks and wide receivers Marques Colston and Robert Meachem.

Updating a previous report, New  Orleans Saints DL Aubrayo  Franklin, who did not play nose tackle in 2011, might consider moving back  to the position if the price is right. Franklin served as a tackle in the 4-3  defensive scheme for the New Orleans  Saints last season after the market never really developed for him in a 3-4  setting. Two personnel directors mentioned Franklin as a possible “sleeper” at  the position when asked at the Super Bowl last week.

A Michigan man was indicted Friday by a federal grand jury on a charge he phoned in a bomb threat to the Superdome during the New Orleans Saints’ playoff win over the Detroit Lions in January. Shawn H. Payton, 34, of Jackson, Mich., is charged with one count of sending threatening communications through interstate commerce, a charge that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired former Giants quarterbacks coach Mike Sullivan as their offensive coordinator Friday. Sullivan joins the staff of new coach Greg Schiano, who was hired in late January from Rutgers, replacing the fired Raheem Morris.

The Packersabsorbed only one loss on their enticing coaching staff after their near-perfect season ended prematurely in the playoffs. Yet, the departure of offensive coordinator Joe Philbin to become head coach with the Miami Dolphins has created some significant movement in the chain of command on offense under Mike McCarthy. Green Bay’s head coach promoted longtime aides Tom Clements and Ben McAdoo to key positions. Clements is making the transition from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator, while McAdoo is progressing from tight ends coach to quarterbacks coach.
