Now it’s a new season and Romeus will have had close to a year and a half to be ready by the time training camp starts.  He will have a new start and a new defensive coordinator in Spagnuolo which could work in his favor.

Saints fans are clamoring for a pass rushing front four on the defensive line which Romeus could bring to the table.  After watching some film on him, Romeus reminds me of current Saints defensive end Junior Galette.

He is able to shed blockers, his motor is pretty impressive, and is a sound run stopper.  One thing that stands out is his burst and closing speed in his pursuit.  While some rookies are put on special teams in the beginning, Romeus could see some playing time on the defensive line as well.

Starting fresh with a new coordinator should be a plus for Romeus also.  Former Saints defensive end Alex Brown recently said that former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams had a very complex playbook.

Brown said that even being a veteran, Williams defensive scheme’s were overwhelming even for him.  With a more simplistic approach from Spagnuolo, Romeus could make an easier transition.
