With injuries to the linebacking corps for the New Orleans Saints, rookie linebacker Nate Bussey has been promoted to the active roster from the practice squad.
Nothing official has been announced by the Saints but seeing a tweet made on Bussey’s Twitter account, you can fill in the blanks. Pilar Abaya Ellis, who according to her Twitter account represents athletes, tweeted a congratulations to Bussey which he retweeted.
Ellis also tweeted this:
Just received one of the best news to start my year…my guy #Saints & former #Illini @NateBUSSEY59 is on the 53! Activated baby! #GodIsGood
#Saints fans-the dynamic #ILLINI duo is back on the field together. @TezWilson2(Saints LB Martez Wilson) & @NateBUSSEY59 are both part of the 53 man roster!
At 7:23 p.m., Bussey tweeted the following:
Dear Saints & Illini fans, Thank U 4 your support. I can NOT wait 2 show U my appreciation on the field. #WhoDat
While there are reports that RB Mark Ingram may be out for the rest of the season with his toe injury. Bussey might also be brought in to replace either LB Will Herring or LB Jonathan Casillas. Herring missed several games and practices due to a hamstring injury and Casillas has been nursing knee problems.
Both linebackers were taken out of the game on Sunday and it’s possible that one or both of them could be headed to injured reserve or out for a playoff game. If it’s Casillas, then his future with the Saints may be in question since this would be his second season where injuries have hampered him and he was placed in injured reserve.
