Who Dat Nation In Mourning - Rams dump on New Orleans Saints 31-21

Last week the New Orleans Saints beat the Colts 62-7.  I’m sure no one noticed, but I didn’t write a blog on that game last week.  The reason I was “absent” was because I simply had nothing to “report”.  It was, what I call a “stupid game”.

It was “stupid” because it made no sense to me at all. Only one week earlier, the Saints stunk up the place with their performance at Tampa Bay ( see http://whodatdish.com/page/4/ ) .  So when they came back with an historic performance against the Colts,  I viewed it as being the results of a bad Colts team, more than  a performance by a great Saints team.  I mean, come on, 62-7 ???? This is the NFL after all!

It turns out I was right.  Just look at how the Saints stunk up the place AGAIN today against the Rams.

I will let the real sports writers break down the statistics for you. They don’t matter to me.  It doesn’t matter that the Cardinals won the world series, and I don’t care who was on the sidelines before today’s game to inspire the Rams.

All I know is that for the last three games, the Saints are showing their true colors (black and “old” gold).  At Tampa Bay they stunk it up.  Against Indianapolis they were a run away train against an armadillo on the tracks (no contest).  And this week, against an 0 and 6 team, they played down to the Ram’s level.

I’m not optipistic. Elite teams don’t have these ups and downs. They lost two out of the last three games.  If they were Superbowl contenders, they should have won all three.

If the Saints are going to turn it around this year, there will have to be a lot of soul searching.  Since they are at home for a few weeks, maybe they should replace the Friday team practice on Airline Highway with an afternoon visit to the St. Louis Cathedral in the French Quarter. That would be the only inspiration they could get  from Saint Louis.
