After the New Orleans Saints lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, one bright spot to fans was that running back Chris Ivory was expected to be activated off their PUP(Physically Unable to Perform) list. Or so they thought.
One glaring thing that stood out to in the loss to Tampa Bay was the Saints inadequate run game. It was the worst some had seen for a while and many thought,”If only Ivory had been in”.
Chris Ivory’s violent “crash and dash” running style has been missed since Week 16 of last season when he suffered a Lisfranc fracture in his foot. His rehabilitation was derailed slightly when he was diagnosed with a sports hernia during training camp.
He was placed on the PUP list when it was seen that Ivory’s recovery was taking a bit long. If the Saints had waited until the regular season started, Ivory would have had to have been placed on injured reserve.
Since the beginning of the season, Ivory has been hard at work and rehabilitation to make his return to the team. The running back trio of Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas, and Mark Ingram has been doing well and the addition of Ivory could only make it better.
On Monday, fans were expecting the announcement to be made that Ivory had been activated and would be ready for the game against the Indianapolis Colts. However, the Saints made another move that left everyone scratching their heads.
