The Colts will face one of their greatest postseason tormentors Sunday night when they try to catch the speedy New Orleans running back who wreaked havoc against Indy in two playoff games while he played for the San Diego Chargers.

The second-year standout, who leads the team in receptions and receiving yards, had a sore right ankle after Wednesday’s practice and the coaching staff wanted to rest him to make sure he didn’t injure it any further.

Payton might not be strolling the sidelines anytime soon, but his system remains very much in place and everyone from the assistants to the players knows how things are done.

But when the Saints added a pair of talented running backs to the mix — free agent Darren Sproles and rookie draft pick Mark Ingram (who won the Heisman Trophy in 2009) — in the offseason, one of the NFL’s most prolific offenses became almost unstoppable.
