New York Jets coach Rex Ryan sends Derrick Mason to Houston Texans

Wide receiver Derrick Mason is out as a New York Jet after being traded to the Houston Texans for a conditional draft pick.

Houston lost star wide receiver Andre Johnson to a hamstring injury, and while he is only expected to miss a few more weeks, the Texans though it was best to add a veteran wider receiver before their season gets away.

Outside linebacker Mario Williams was lost for the season during Sunday’s loss to the Oakland Raiders with a torn pectoral muscle. Houston has now loss two of it’s last three games after starting the season 2-0 .

Mason signed with the Jets in free agency after spending the last six seasons as a Baltimore Raven. While there he posted four 1,000 yards seasons, but this year has managed only 13 receptions for 115 yards with the Jets.

The timing of the trade is suspicious as it was just last week that news broke of Mason, along with teammates Santonio Holmes and Plaxico Burress, complaining about the Jets offensive game plan under OC Brian Schottenheimer.

The Jets denied the report, although his departure from the team seems to lend credibality to the story.
