New Orleans Saints: Top news, videos, and more

Provided by the New Orleans Saints, here is a transcript of Coach Sean Payton’s press conference Thursday at the team’s practice facility in Metairie. The team hosts the Houston Texans on Sunday at the Superdome.

Saints safety Roman Harper was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week after registering seven tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble against the Bears. Chicago was held to 246 total yards, completed just 19-of-45 passes and managed only 3.6 yards per pass play. New Orleans head coach Sean Payton knows his team will face a challenge duplicating that performance against a potent Houston offense on Sunday.

Saints strong safety Roman Harper says the NFL has notified the team that game officials were wrong to throw a flag for Harper’s hard hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler.

The leader of the offensive line, one of the longest tenured Saints, and a Pro Bowler was suddenly gone. Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis certainly didn’t want to release him, nor did Drew Brees want to see him go, but in the end it was the best move for the Saints.
