New Orleans Saints: Top news, videos, and more

The 2011 season starts in spectacular style on Thursday at Lambeau Field where the Green Bay Packers host the New Orleans Saints in a battle of the past two Super Bowl champions.

That a respectable run game will make life much easier against the New Orleans Saints on Thursday in the regular-season opener is no revelation. But questions about other simple details were met with vague non-answers.

The New Orleans Saints realize this, and took steps to correct what they perceived as an area that needed improvement over 2010. The Saints traded to draft former Heisman Trophy winning running back Mark Ingram, and signed free agent running back Darren Sproles away from the San Diego Chargers, to join veteran Pierre Thomas.

Everyone in Who Dat Nation can sleep a little easier tonight and put those dreaded “Payton to Dallas” rumors to bed as well after a recent press release by the New Orleans Saints. The Saints have stated that they have extended Head Coach Sean Payton’s contract through the 2015 season.  Terms were not available at this time.

Meanwhile, New Orleans – after dishing Bush to Miami – signed unrestricted free agent Darren Sproles, a seventh-year pro who leads the NFL in all-purpose yards since 2007 with 8,260.
