New Orleans Saints Waive S DeAndre McDaniel; Look To Sign Kicker

Well the Saints roster has to get down to 80 players by this afternoon and the New Orleans Saints have started the ball rolling.  However, there may be another motive since more names haven’t been announced yet.

About 20 minutes ago S DeAndre McDaniel announced on his Twitter account, “Saints waived me today.”  The rookie from Clemson was brought in as an undrafted free agent to compete on Special Teams and a possible position in the secondary.

However, McDaniel hasn’t really made that much of an impact on the roster so far so it’s not a surprise.  Plus, with the Reggie Bush trade, the Saints acquired S Jonathon Amaya who is known for his ability on Special Teams.

While this might seem like a move to reduce the roster to the required 80 players this afternoon, it’s also been reported that the Saints may be signing K John Kasay who has been with the Carolina Panthers.

K Garrett Hartley appeared to tweak his hip during the Saints preseason game against the Oakland Raiders.  Kasay is probably being looked at as insurance.  Since he needs a roster spot, that is probably the reason McDaniel was released.  Expect 10 more to come later this afternoon.
