The final phase of renovations will improve fan experience and make the Superdome the NFL’s fifth largest stadium, in terms of seating capacity. If and when the NFL lockout ends and the Saints 2011 campaign is allowed to begin, Saints fans will enter a Superdome that is noticeably different than the one they left in 2010.
Since Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005, the Superdome has seen a number of improvements including new scoreboards, lighting, and a new bronze exterior that makes the dome shine as brightly as it did when it opened in 1975.
The immediate issue for the Saints after Katrina was returning the Superdome to a playable NFL stadium, but now they have been able to focus on making the dome one of the best stadiums in the NFL.
The new renovations helped the Superdome to capture the 2013 Superbowl and the 2012 Final Four.
Among the renovations Saints fans will notice before entering the dome are the continued improvements to La Salle Street and Champions Square.
The pregame fan experience of Champions Square was a new addition in 2010, but will be made developed further through the addition of a permanent grand stair case with built in seating and a wider entrance leading into the Gate C entrance.
La Salle St. will get new benches, foliage, built in bathrooms, and a vine wall to cover the parking garage facing the street.
