In just a couple of weeks ex Giant wide receiver Plaxico Burress will be walking out of New York’s Oneida Correctional Facility a free man.
His agent says that Burress is a free agent and will be playing in the NFL in 2011, Where will be the only question.
The NFL’s work stoppage means that no team can offer him a contract as of now, but there are a few teams that may intrigue him, including the Saints.
New Orleans have wide receivers on their roster at present that are better than Burress, but with Lance Moore set to become a free agent this off-season, and Devery Henderson’s tendency to drop passes, having another guy opposite Marques Colston on the Saints roster makes you wonder.
Since being drafted by Pittsburgh in 2000, Burress has played in 128 games between the Steelers and Giants, accumulating 505 receptions for 7,845 yards and 55 touchdowns. A red-zone machine!
If the long layoff while being in prison hasn’t caused him to lose any of his playing skills, then he is worth a look by the Saints, and probably for a very low cap number as well.
Burress is 6 foot five and could become another large target for Saints quarterback Drew Brees, it could take some of the coverage off of Colston and Jimmy Graham in the red zone.
‘Let me know what your opinion is about adding Plaxico Burress to the Saints roster’
