South Florida defensive lineman Terrell McClain is building momentum in NFL circles following a strong Pro Day workout, where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.82 and 4.95 seconds.
All but two NFL teams were at the workout. According to one NFL source, McClain’s stock is rising into second-round consideration. A perfect spot for the Saints to grab a guy of McClain’s ability.
He has drawn particular interest from a lot of teams including the New Orleans Saints who hold the 56th pick in the second round.
The 6-foot-2, 297-pounder was an All-Big East Conference selection, posting 24 tackles three sacks and 4 1/2 tackles for losses last season.
As a junior, he recorded 25 tackles, 1 1/2 sacks, five tackles for losses, a forced fumble and three quarterback pressures.
McClain was also recruited by Alabama, Auburn, Florida, North Carolina State and South Carolina.
He knows how to use his quickness to his advantage and he also has great leverage and uses his strength well.
I want to be known as a player who was a great person, not just a great player. McClain was asked recently what would he like to do after he’s drafted, I would like to give back, especially to my family and community. I have a younger brother and an older sister. My brother is in Mississippi in junior college. My sister is a nurse. My mom is in the Navy. My dad is a retired Marine.
I learned everything from them. I come from a well-disciplined family. They were always around telling us right and wrong. I love them to death. At first, I was just shooting for getting drafted. I would be happy regardless. I want to go to a good team and have an impact there and have a great career. I don’t want to struggle. I want to have fun.
Hopefully the lockout is settled soon, if not it will be a drag. They’ll probably wait until the last minute, but you never know. I’ll be ready whenever it’s time to play football.
If the Saints are able to land him in the second round he is likely will be able to step in and contribute from day one. He’ll be able to learn from defensive tackles Shaun Rogers and Sedrick Ellis how to be a pro.
WHO DAT LOVES THEM SAINTS!! WE DO GEAUX SAINTS….
