New Orleans has five total picks in this years draft, picks 24, 56, 72, 88 and 215 but have been awarded one more pick in the seventh round which will be number 242 overall.
The Saints have proven they they can find late round gems, a perfect example of which when they drafted wide receiver Marques Colston in 2006 with the 252nd pick overall. This particular pick was actually a compensatory pick awarded that year.
Colston started in week one of the 2006 season after the team traded away Donte Stallworth and since compiled 369 receptions for 5,097 yards and 40 touchdowns, only once failing to eclipse 1,000 yards receiving in 2008 after missing time with injury (760 yards, five touchdowns).
Hopefully lightning can strike twice and they can parlay both seventh round picks into players to build on for the future. Who knows, maybe they will find the next great running back or even a pro bowl caliber defensive lineman that may have slipped through the cracks.
