In the last three years New Orleans has spent two first round picks and a high second round pick on corner backs. In 2008 they took Tracy Porter, in 2009 it was Malcolm Jenkins followed by Patrick Robinson last year.
Brown’s draft stock has been rising after being over shadowed by Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara. At the Combine he posted a 4.51 forty yard dash, which wasn’t the fastest, but excelled in all the drills displaying great footwork and overall speed in a tall six foot frame.
Not the top rated cornerback in the draft but he is widely considred to be scheme diverse and equally as good in man coverage as zone coverage, making him appealing to most teams and a rookie that can contribute from day one.
The Saints my part ways with veteran corner Randall Gay this off season to avoid paying a nearly three million dollar salary. Gay missed most of last season after being placed in injured reserve with lingering post concussion symptoms.
With Gay gone it would leave only four corners on the roster with starting experience: Jabari Greer, Tracy Porter, Patrick Robinson and Leigh Torrence.
