Regardless of the NFL lockout and it’s durations Madden NFL 12 must go on as currently voting has commenced to pick the cover athlete for the games before it;s schedules release in August.
Last season Drew Brees was pegged as the poster boy after directing the Saints to their Super Bowl XLIV win over the Indianapolis Colts. Madden NFL 11 was heavily themed towards the Saints and displayed their colors of black and gold throughout it’s menu system.
Some believe there to be a “Madden Curse” meant to imply that the cover athlete will be injured in some way or have a down season. Yes, there is some validity to these claims as several cover athletes did experience problems the season following their covers.
In Drew Brees case he did guide the Saints to an 11-5 record last year, and a playoff berth although losing in the first round to Seattle, but the normally deadly accurate quarterback threw a career high seventeen interceptions which factored largely in their five losses.
Voting for the new cover athlete started yesterday and will run through April 17th in a bracket style voting system. Brees along with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Lions defensive tackle Ndamakong Suh among others are up for voting.
