The Saints have many needs that need to be addressed in the draft, that is if you consider the league best amount of free agents they must contend with trying to re-sign this year. Without question New Orleans has some big decisions to make in the coming months.

  • DT Remi Ayodele (4)
  • RB Ladell Betts (9)
  • OT Jermon Bushrod (4)
  • DE Jeff Charleston (4)
  • OLB Danny Clark (11)
  • OLB Jo-Lonn Dunbar (3)
  • FB Heath Evans (10)
  • C Jonathan Goodwin (9)
  • DE Tony Hargrove (6)
  • S Roman Harper (5)
  • PK Garrett Hartley (3), re-signed to five-year contract 3/3
  • TE Tory Humphrey (4)
  • MLB Marvin Mitchell (4)
  • WR Lance Moore (5)
  • OG Carl Nicks (3)
  • S Pierson Prioleau (12)
  • S Chris Reis (4)
  • WR Courtney Roby (5)
  • OLB Scott Shanle (8)
  • S Darren Sharper (14)
  • OT Zach Strief (5)
  • TE David Thomas (5)
  • RB Pierre Thomas (4)
  • CB Leigh Torrence (5), re-signed to four-year contract 3/3
  • MLB Anthony Waters (4)
  • DE Jimmy Wilkerson (8)
  • CB Usama Young (4)

Defensive end seems to be the trendy choice for the Saints in the first round but I wouldn’t be shocked if the team went another direction and took a linebacker, defensive tackle or even a running back. Rumblings have Alabama’s Mark Ingram falling to the bottom of the first round and into the reach of New Orleans.

The fact is nearly every position could be an option for the Saints at 24, including offensive lineman, given that Jermon Bushrod, Carl Nicks and Zach Strief are all likely to become unrestricted free agents when a new CBA is put in place.
