Runnig Back Reggie Bush Eludes A New York Giants Defender (Source:

Speculation has run rampant surrounding the future of running back Reggie Bush and if he will return to the Saints for a sixth NFL season with the club since becoming their top draft selection in 2006.

The verdict — Bush will be back with the Saints but at a significantly reduced salary on a restructured contract — but the new deal will have to wait until the NFL and NFLPA agree to terms on a new collective bargaining agreement.

Bush is scheduled to make nearly eleven million dollars next season which is the type of money commanded only by the NFL’s most elite players, not the specialty players like he has become in the Saints offense.

In comparison Tennesse Titan running back Chris Johnson rushed for over 2,000 yards in 2009, while Bush has amassed only a slightly higher rushing total in five NFL seasons with 2,090 yards, but not even Johnson is set to make the kind of money Bush is in 2011.

His low rushing total does not necessarily mean he is not a valuable player to the Saints organization as he wears many hats inside the Saints offense that include receiver, punt return and even decoy to try and fool opposing defenses.

I’ve loved the pick since the beginning. I have defended Bush while getting bashed by his haters. People expect him to do something special everytime he touches the ball. I’d like to see him lined up in the slot or catch passes out of the backfield to get him into space. I’m not saying anything that the Saints’ coaches don’t already know but I hate to see talent not being utilized. With some key FA signings and a strategic draft the Saints will be strong contenders for the Lombardi again.
Note: Don’t know if anyone else thought this way, but about 10-15 of Brees’ INTs looked Favre-like…..just saying.

I too have been pro Reggie Bush since he was drafted but more often then not find myself talking trash about him when he is dropped for a loss, which is far too much. He is capable of some electric plays, I just wish they would happen more often. Re-signing him at a tolerable cost is fine with me though.

I live in Atlanta and since their 1 and done playoff loss quite a few radio talk shows have commented about the need for an explosive back like Reggie Bush (this years draft doesn’t have as many as usual) Some even saying the Falcons should sign Bush after the Saints cut him.

As for what they pay Reggie, that’s none of my business. However, do you think that owners like Jones and Snyder would be out bid by the Saints if they wanted to add Bush to their team.

I’m pleased the Saints are keeping Bush AND they’re being smart about it with the salary level. Reggis himself realizes he hasn’t lived up to expectations, but you gotta admire his loyalty to the team and the city. He started to show promise with some good slant and draw runs but the injury really took him off his game. I hope he gets back into form and he’ll keep my support and that of the fans…plus I get to wear my BUSH jersey for another season :)

I’m glad Reggie will stay with Saints.

    Consider this:
    Colston 40 TDs
    Bush 33 TDs
    Thomas 24 TDs
    Moore 23 TDs
    Henderson 18 TDs

I like the diversity of the offense and the three headed running attack, Reggie’s talent, Pierre’s toughness, and Ivory’s violence.

    Fun to watch.
