I think at some point this off-season the Giants and Jacobs will agree to part ways and once Jacobs is turned loose the Saints need bring him in and show Jacobs that they have a system in place where he will get plenty of carries in their two back system. The Saints have running back issues themselves, with an increasing likelihood Pierre Thomas will test the free agent market.
Right now all signs point to New York choosing Bradshaw over Jacobs, and he wants to play not sit on the bench. The Saints know that talented running backs can always be found in the middle rounds of the NFL Draft, and 2011 should be no different.
Ryan Williams of Virginia Tech, Illinois’s Mikel Leshoure, and UConn’s Jordan Todman are all solid mid-round prospects that would fit well with the Saint and all are within reach with the 24th pick in the draft.
But if the Saints can sign a running back like Brandon Jacobs to team up with Chris Ivory (whom Saints coach Sean Payton loves), they will be able to concentrate their attention on getting a defensive end like Ray Edwards or a linebacker. It’s a shame that the Vikings tagged linebacker Chad Greenway, he would have been a great fit in Gregg Williams defensive scheme.
