DE Will Smith Responded To Atlanta's Roddy White Calling The Saints "Aints" With A Pic Of His Super Bowl Ring. (Source is via @iWillSmith Twitter Feed)
The New Orleans Saints-Atlanta Falcons rivalry kind of reminds you of college football.
Take all of the glitzy stadiums away, the million dollar salaries, take it all away, and you have good ol’ fashioned hate, just like the kind that flows at an Auburn-Alabama game or a Michigan-Ohio State showdown.
Roddy White, a wide receiver for the Falcons got things kicked off Tuesday night when he tweeted, “No chance in hell the Aints come into the dome and win once Trent Dilfer.”
Saints’ defensive end Will Smith then preceded to tweet back, “Wondering how @roddywhitetv has the audacity to call us AINT’S.” Included with the message was a photo of a Saints’ Super Bowl ring.
The banter between fans of both teams was much more heated and frequently laced with profanity, some playful but most of it was as serious as a heart attack.
None of this is foreign to either team, or it’s fans for, that matter, they play each other twice a season and this happens frequently, but the stakes are higher this weekend.
First of all, it’s a Monday night game. Second, the Falcons can win the division with a win while the Saints can secure a playoff berth with a win, and third, Saints’ fans are still bitter after the Falcons came to the Superdome and handed the Black & Gold their first loss of the season earlier in the year.
The Saints had a chance to win at the end of regulation, but Garrett Hartley’s field goal attempt sailed wide left and the Falcons went on to win in overtime.
Games between these two teams are typically a slug fest and don’t expect anything less this Monday night.
The Saints will have much to prove as will the Falcons and there isn’t any place better to prove something than on national television.
Is it Monday yet?
