According to NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora, Saints running back Reggie Bush has forfeited the Heisman Trophy that he won in 2005 while playing collegiately for the University of Southern California.
Allegedly, Bush received improper benefits while at USC including a house in which his parents were allowed to live in during Bush’s Trojan career.
Earlier this year, USC announced that it had returned it’s copy of the Bush’s trophy to the Heisman Trophy Trust but the Trust had made no move to reclaim Bush’s copy of college football’s most coveted individual award.
I will forever appreciate the honor bestowed upon me as a winner of the Heisman. While this decision is heart-breaking, I find solace in knowing that the award was made possible by the support and love of so many. Those are gifts that can never be taken away, Bush said in a statement released by the Saints.
The Trust had no comment at the time of this writing.
