It may seem far fetched but given the Saints recent defensive struggles and relatively ineffective combination of linebackers at the strong side position should the team look towards a trade for an ace linebacker such as disgruntled Packer A.J. Hawk? Hawk has not officially requested a trade from the Packers but is unhappy with his current situation in Green Bay. When the Packers move into their nickel and dime formations to defend against the pass Hawk is benched in preference of linebacker Brandon Chiller who they consider to be better in pass protection. That move of course does not sit well with Hawk given how [...]
Multiple sources confirm the Saints have agreed to a one year contract with veteran kicker John Carney and by all indications intend to also keep Garrett Hartley on the roster. Carney was brought in for a work out Tuesday afternoon on the heels of the Saints overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons, Hartley missed a 29 yard field goal that could have won the game essentially cementing the Saints need to look at other options in the kick game.
Seven field goal attempts, four field goals made for an overall field goal percentage of 57.1, the stat line kicker Garrett Hartley has put up in three games this season. Against Minnesota he was 0-2, then against Atlanta yesterday 1-1, it just so happens to be that the one field goal he missed, a 29 yard chip shot, could have won the game for the Saints in OT.
Reggie Bush has been the Saints go to guy when it comes to returning punts over the last few years, and rightfully so, as he has the ability to take it back for a touchdown each and every time he touches the ball. But Bush is no longer a factor after breaking his fibula in the fourth quarter of the Saints win over the 49ers Monday.
September 25, 2006 represented a new day in the city of New Orleans, the beginning of a long journey, a sense of renewal. In the days after Hurricane Katrina, the Louisiana Superdome became a symbol of the suffering that was taking place all over the Gulf Coast region. The television and print images of the destruction in and around the Crescent City certainly werent’ going away anytime soon, but for one night in September, people forgot about insurance battles, flooded homes, and ruined possessions, and became normal Americans again.
The Saints narrowly escaped Candle Stick Park with the win over the 49ers on Monday Night football, a 25-22 effort ending with kicker Garrett Hartley’s 37 yard field goal with time expiring. One positive note for the Saints coming out of the game was of course the defenses performance but more importantly that Hartley hit all three of his field goals after missing both of his attempts against the Vikings. Even with the Saints offense currently not dominating games as they have done so often over the last few years the defense, lead by Gregg Williams, is still findings ways to collect [...]
Gris Gris Man’s Spell On The Dirty Birds
Late at night deep in the swamp, I stand on top a cypress stump, My pot is boiling to the spirits I shout, Let this spell be heard uttered from my mouth, Lion mane and mark of Drew, Crushed up bones and monkey doo, Claw of panther and Raven blood, From the river I took some mud, Marie Laveau and mark of nine, Take a hair from Benson’s behind,
After the injury to running back Reggie Bush and the news he will be lost for six weeks with a broken fibula the Saints were left looking for answers with only two healthy running backs left on the roster. The answer for the Saints was to resign running back Ladell Betts who was released in the teams final roster cut after spending most of the preseason in New Orleans.
Saints running back Reggie Bush injured his right leg while fielding a punt in the fourth quarter of the teams 25-22 win over the San Francisco 49ers. Bush muffed the point among fierce wins and dived to recover the ball when a 49er defender rolled his right leg at a very awkward angle.
A windy evening in San Francisco ended with a Brees claiming victory over the hometown 49ers as the Saints rolled to a 25-22 win as kicker Garrett Hartley hit a 37 yard field goal as time expired. The kick looked as if it wouldn’t be good after a 49er apparently made contact with it. Jim Henderson of the Saints Radio Network said that there were “angels on the crossbars.” “One thing about being a saint, when you got the man upstairs behind you you can’t lose. WHO DAT,” chimed in safety Darren Sharper via Twitter.
