UCLA defensive lineman Brian Price, a potential first round draft prospect, has scheduled a visit with the Saints along with several other NFL teams including the Chargers and Eagles. Price has garnered alot on interest from NFL clubs after an impressive pro day and combine workout. At 6’1, 301 pounds Price is a physical specimen with surprising speed and athleticism. He has impresssed NFL scouts with his aggressiveness, quickness and ability to penetrate the backfield and is higly regarded for his work ethic. The Chiefs continue to re-build their struggling franchise this time plucking assistant linebacker coach Adam Zimmer from the Super Bowl winning Saints. Zimmer, the son of Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, joined the Saints in 2006 prior to their magical play-off run that season. He of course contributed to the Saints Super Bowl XLIV victory over the Colts and was a valued member of the coaching staff. Backup defensive end Jeff Charleston signed his one year 1.1M dollar tender off with the Saints today which is the lowest possible tender offer a team can make. Charleston,27, entered the NFL as undrafted rookie free agent with the Texans in May of  2006 but was released shortly there after in September. He was then signed by the Colts in January of 2007 where he played until being waived in August but while there appeared in 13 games as the primary backup at right defensive end recording 24 tackles, 1 sack, 3 pass deflections and a forced fumble. Pro days have come and gone with many top prospects showcasing the elite abilities that make them such coveted picks in the NFL draft. The consensus top corner back in the draft Joe Haden, who had previously struggled at the combine posting a slow forty yard dash time (4.57) and sluggish drill work, shined at his pro day running a 4.45 forty time. Although it was never thought Haden would drop out of the first round entirely his performance has most likely catapulted him back to a top ten pick. It doesn’t appear that the Saints will seek to retain free agent running back Mike Bell, a key contributor to the Saints sixth ranked run game last season rushing for 654 yards and five touchdowns in 2009. Bell signed a one year, 1.7M dollar offer sheet with the Philadelphia Eagles last Tuesday and officially the Saints have until midnight tonight to match the offer made to Bell or let him walk, and walking seems to be what they plan to let him do. The Saints are still un-decided at this point whether to bring back running back Mike Bell after he  signed an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Eagles this past Wednesday. Payton and Loomis have seven days to match the offer made to Bell after tendering him  at roughly 1.2M, 500K less than the offer made by the Eagles, if they plan to keep him. Mike Bell, a restricted free agent, has signed an offer sheet with the Philadelphia Eagles. The offer is a one year contract worth roughly 1.7M, a cool 500k more than what the Saints had tendered him. The Saints however have the right of first refusal and are granted a week to match the offer made to Bell or let him walk, Bell himself has said he has no preference to which team he plays for moving forward. Anthony Hargrove could have been the comeback player of the year last season, after all he re-entered the NFL with the Saints after a two year battle with addiction only to supercede all expectations. Free agent safety Darren Sharper has still not re-signed with the Saints going on record to say the franchise is not “showing him the love”, loosely translated as they are not showing him the money that he desires to comeback.
