It was widely reported that Saints corner back Tracy Porter suffered an ACL tear when he collided with Usama Young in the second quarter of the Saints win over St. Louis.
ACL injuries always require surgery which in turn nearly always land the player on injured reserve.
Luckily for the Saints and Porter the MRI he had tiday only shows an MCL sprain (tear) which doesn’t require surgery and generally carries a 4 to 6 week recovery time depending on the degree of the sprain.
This of course means the Saints will not lose him for the season and instead are now faced with the reality he may very well return in week 13 or 14, or at the very least make his return for the Saints post season run.
In the meantime Randall Gay should start in Porter’s spot until his return.
Gay started opposite Porter against the Rams and was beat twice by receiver Donnie Avery for touchdowns.
Gay was the Saints best corner last season leading the team in passes defensed but maybe it’s time for the Saints to get an extended look at first round draft pick Malcolm Jenkins instead.
