They lost to three better teams at the beginning of last season then blew numerous chances against the Panthers. That 0-4 start and the failure to come back costed them. The losses came because they were just not very good. The defense was atrocious. The corners couldn't cover, the linebackers couldn't tackle and the line could not get any pressure.
